NEC Tokin Corp., together with Honda Electron Co. Ltd, has developed the PLDM-06 transformer that exhibits a dynamic range of up to 100dB and is designed specifically for Power Line modems operating at <450kHz.

The transformer is capable of injecting a transmission power signal into a low-impedance system, while suppressing electromagnetic leakage. It transmits signals with amplitude down to 1?V/kHz, thereby reducing common-mode noise generated by power lines.

Measuring 14-by-14-by-13mm, the transformer operates from 150kHz to 450kHz and offer a minimum THD 60dB. Line side dc resistance is 108 milliohms, while inductance is 39.2?H and interwinding capacitance is 80pF. The transformer is capable of withstanding 1.5kVac for up to 3s.
