Sharp Corp. has introduced the SunVista (part number: NT-167AK) photovoltaic (PV) module that achieves a conversion efficiency of 17.4 percent - claimed to be the most efficient PV module designed for residential applications.

Improvements in the pn-junction technology and electrode design, as well as lower interconnect resistance between solar cells within the module enable the high conversion efficiency. This allows a 3kW PV generating system to be installed in a 17.3m? area, about 25 percent smaller than previous solutions.

The SunVista module measures 1,200-by-802-by-5mm and weighs 14kg. It has a nominal operating voltage of 41.3V and operating current of 4.05A. Power output is 167W. It is priced at around $1,500.
