Xilinx Inc. announced at the 2003 Embedded Systems Conference the availability of its v3.2 Embedded Development Kit that offers significant enhancements to the MicroBlaze 32-bit soft processor core and embedded design tools supporting both MicroBlaze and the Virtex-II Pro PowerPC.

The new MicroBlaze core offers LocalLink internconnect technology to simplify hardware implementation, 32-bit barrel shifter to boost the shift execution process, instruction and data caches configurable to 64KB, and hardware divider. The core runs at 68 Dhrystone-MIPS (DMIPS) in the Spartan-3 FPGA and 125DMIPS in the Virtex-II Pro FPGA.

Other tool enhancements include additional support for the Solaris Platform, Block Editor View, and extended debug facilities for multiprocessor systems.
