Powertip Technology Corp., a manufacturer of TN and STN panels and modules, has entered into the telecommunications line. C. S. Lin, VP, said, "We have introduced four types of 1.1-inch-, 1.5-inch-, 1.6-inch-, and 1.89-inch 65,000-color STN panels and modules designed for PHS-type mobile telephones. Our incoming orders for Q1 of this year have increased by 20 to 30 percent since late last year."

According to Lin, the orders came from PHS-type mobile telephone assembly houses in mainland China. He added, "The demand for our new STN panels and modules has reached more than 100,000 units starting this April, and will continue until December 2003. In addition, we will ship these new panels and modules to mobile telephone assembly houses in South Korea this May."

Lin noted, "Our yield rate for LCMs has reached 95 percent. Shipment to Europe accounts for 45 percent of output, followed by Asian countries with 40 percent. The remaining goes to North America."
