NEC Corp. has selected Agilent Technologies Inc.'s HSDL-3002 infrared (IR) transceiver with remote control capability to be used on its full-color display mobile phone. The Agilent HSDL-3002 IR transceiver module combines IrDA (Infrared Data Association)-compliant low power serial infrared operation at speeds to 115.2Kbps with IR remote control transmission.

Equipped with the Agilent HSDL-3002's IR port, the NEC N504iS mobile phone will be capable of providing cordless communications functions such as exchanging pictures with other handsets. In addition, the transceiver can also control TV receivers and VCRs up to 6m away from the handset.
