ZiLOG Inc. has expanded its Z8 Encore! family of 8-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) with the addition of new models that feature up to 8KB of high-speed Flash memory.

The Z8 Encore! MCUs operate at more than twice the speed and execute instructions three times faster than the company's previous Z8 MCUs to meet the need of designers working on consumer and industrial applications.

The Z8F04 (4KB Flash) and Z8F08 (8KB of Flash) contain an eZ8 CPU with a 20MHz core that is backward compatible with the Z8 MCUs. Both also feature 1KB of linear register SRAM, as well as one 9-bit UART port, two 16-bit counter timers, and a 5-channel 10-bit ADC.

The Z8F04 is priced starting at $2.40, while the Z8F08 begins at $2.90, depending on the configuration.
