Tektronix Inc. has received a high-volume order of oscilloscopes and options from China's Ministry of Education. Using a loan from the World Bank's Higher Education Development Project, the Ministry purchased more than 1,200 oscilloscopes for 24 universities in 15 cities throughout the country. The products are scheduled to be shipped within the year.

Among the newly acquired instruments are models that range from the entry-level, two-channel TDS1002 digital storage oscilloscope, to the TDS3054B digital phosphor oscilloscope with four channels, a color display, and 500MHz bandwidth. Also included in the order are optional communication modules that allow the instruments to connect to GPIB and to printers so that students can easily document their work. The new oscilloscopes join about 3,000 Tektronix digital oscilloscopes already in use in China's university engineering labs.

"Tektronix's broad range of digital oscilloscopes includes numerous cost-effective models that make suitable training tools for students learning to work with computing and communications systems and other complex electronic products," said Colin Shepard, VP, Oscilloscope Products, Tektronix. "With this purchase, the China Ministry of Education can equip more than 1,000 new lab seats with affordable TDS2000 Series and TDS1000 Series instruments, and provide higher performing TDS3000B Series oscilloscopes for more advanced studies. China's engineering students will work with the same instruments they will see when they take jobs after college."
