Molex parallel modules operate to 3.2Gbps per channel

Molex Inc. has added a 3.2Gbps version to its ParaLink Parallel Optical Interconnect product line. The ParaLink-P product is a pluggable 12-channel parallel module suitable for high-speed, high-density optical data transfer applications. This enhanced version increases throughput by 25 percent over commonly available devices at 2.5Gbps per channel.

The device comes as a set of separate 12-channel transmitter and receiver modules. The transmitter is based on a VCSEL array with active bias and modulation feedback that provides constant optical output and range. It provides low-power consumption, typically 1.6W per link.

The modules plug into a 10x10 BGA socket, and are specified at 3.125Gbps per channel, as well as compatible with XAUI interface chips. They can transmit optical data over 300m of multimode fiber depending on the type of fiber used. Other key applications include high-end video routing equipment and terabit routers.
