BOE to build LCD production base in Beijing

Beijing Orient Electronic Co. Ltd (BOE) has entered into an agreement with the Beijing Economic & Technological Development Zone to build a TFT-LCD production base. The project will consist of three phases. The first phase will absorb an investment of $1.2 billion, and is scheduled to commence mass production by year-end.

In January this year, the company acquired the TFT-LCD business of South Korea-based Hynix Inc. with the capital of $380 million. This move has allowed BOE to become one of the key technology providers of TFT-LCD in China.

The new facility will produce displays for household appliances, computers, digital cameras, and mobile phones.
