MIPS Technologies Inc. has introduced the MIPS32 24K, a new microarchitecture that is suitable for use in digital consumer devices like set-top boxes and digital televisions, where high levels of system performance and application configurability are required.

The microarchitecture is designed to scale beyond the 0.13?m process technologies, and allows SoC designers the ability to leverage falling transistor costs to implement hardwired functionality in software.

It features operating performance ranges from 400MHZ to 550MHz, configurable memory management unit with TLB or fixed mapping, 64-bit high performance memory subsystem with up to six outstanding read transactions, and enables access to the broad array of third party tools and software.
