Siliconix MOSFETs occupy smaller footprint area

Fourteen PowerPAK power MOSFETs, featuring improved package technology and lower on-resistance, were released by Siliconix Inc., a subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. The devices provide on-resistance, gate-charge, and on-resistance-times-gate-charge values that are optimized for synchronous low-side operation and/or high-side control operation in core voltage dc-dc buck converters, and for secondary-side synchronous rectifiers in isolated dc-dc converters.

Designed for use in single or multi-phase power supply circuits, they are suitable for use in server and desktop computer applications, notebook computer applications requiring 30V devices, and in dc-to-dc converters and point-of-load (POL) converters in fixed telecom applications.

The SO-8 package provides up to 60 percent better power dissipation and up to 45 percent higher drain current than standard SO-8 devices. Compared with devices in the DPAK package, PowerPAK has a 53 percent smaller footprint area, and a 55 percent thinner profile. The higher efficiency of PowerPAK power MOSFETs prolongs battery life in notebook computers while allowing them to run cooler and more reliably.

The Si7858DP, Si7862DP, Si7864DP, Si7458DP, Si7868DP, Si7368DP, Si7866DP, Si7366DP, Si7442DP, Si7880DP, Si7892DP, Si7860DP, Si7806DN, and Si7884DP MOSFETs are priced from 82 cents to $1.93 in 100,000-piece quantities.
