ON Semiconductor has introduced five new protection devices that integrate multiple transient voltage suppression (TVS) components into a single 1.6-by-1.6-by-0.6mm SOT553 or SOT563 package.

Meeting the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection requirements, the SOT5xx-packaged TVS devices reduce board space by 36 percent and offer a 40 percent lower profile than conventional SC88 packages. They are ideal for use in portable applications where board space is at a premium such as cell phones, digital cameras, MP3 players, handheld games, and PDAs.

The NZQA5V6XV5 (5.6V), NZQA6V2XV5 (6.2V), NZQA6V8XV5 (6.8V), NZQA6V8AXV5 (6.8V), and NUP4102XV6 (14V) TVS protection devices protect four separate lines using one small package and are ESD rated to meet IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 requirement.

Some of the devices deliver low capacitance for high-speed data lines. Others are higher capacitance devices for more general use. Both uni-directional and bi-directional devices are available.

Ramesh Ramchandani, ON Semiconductor VP and GM for Integrated Power Products, said, "Because these small integrated devices utilize less board space than discrete TVS solutions, they simplify board layout, reduce the number of components required and ultimately provide a lower bottom-line cost for the overall system."

All devices are currently in production, and are priced at 10 cents per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.
