Macnica Inc., a Japan-based semiconductor distributor, and fabless digital media semiconductor company Tripath Technology Inc., have agreed to jointly develop an 8-channel digital amplifier that will be integrated into a single module. This module consists of a digital interface, volume control, Tripath's patented 1-bit delta sigma modulators, its patented high-power digital amplifier drivers, and transistors driven at the final stage that produces digital audio signal to external low-pass filters.

"I believe this module will be attractive to many audio, video, and home theater system manufacturers including DVD and AV receiver OEMs," said Graham Wright, VP of Sales and Marketing at Tripath. "The 25mm height module fits in a very in a very thin chassis, which is becoming standard in the DVD and AV receiver market."
