Boosting its efforts to provide front-end IC design planning solutions, Tera Systems has raised $11 million in new venture funding. As part of the deal, Pierre Lamond, Sequoia Capital partner, will join Tera's board of directors.

Tera will use the funding as working capital to expand global sales and marketing efforts, and to further its research and development activities.

Tera provides TeraForm, an RTL design planning tool that can be used before synthesis and physical implementation. Earlier in June, Tera announced a major purchase by Sony for TeraForm. Tera also has alliances with ASIC vendors including IBM, LSI Logic, and NEC.

Lamond focuses on components, software and systems investments for Sequoia Capital, and is chairman of the board for several companies.
