DCT chipset extends cordless phone operating distance

Atmel Corp. has announced the availability of its 2.4GHz DCT chipset that extends distance between the handset of a cordless phone and the basestation. Current solutions can bridge a distance of 300m, while the chipset can reach up to 600m.

The chipset consists of the LNA/ PA IC T7026 and the T2803 transceiver IC. The T2803's variable data transmit bit rate can adjust to any data transmit bit rate from 9.6Kbps to 1.152Mbps. This results in a sensitivity of -9dBm at 1.152Mbps and -98dBm at 576Kbps.

The T7026 provides a power output of 28dBm and includes a power control system, which can be controlled by the software to reduce the current consumption.

For cordless phone applications, any DECT baseband controller is suited to operate along with the chipset. For wireless data applications, a baseband controller can be used. The T2803 is available in a QFN48 package and is priced at $5.70, while the T7026 is offered in a QFN20 packaged and is priced at $2.80. Both are available in 10,000-piece quantities.
