Agilent Technologies Inc.'s acceSS7 Location solution has been selected by Cingular Wireless for Abis monitoring. Cingular plans to use the solution to comply with the requirements of Phase II of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) E-911 mandate which requires service providers to provide location information for wireless 911 callers to public emergency service agencies.

Cingular will use acceSS7 Location Abis monitors to observe its GSM radio access network, providing the required RF channel information to enable the U-TDOA (uplink time difference of arrival) location network. This approach allows U-TDOA to work across all GSM radio access network vendors' infrastructure utilizing all types of handsets to allow emergency personnels to directly service 911 callers.
