BVS device provides 3 high-frequency sine outputs

The Rhino3 device from Berkeley Varitronic Systems (BVS) can be used as a laboratory frequency reference, providing 3 buffered 10MHz sinewave outputs. Suitable for field applications, it is also designed for real-time frequency and phase measurements and adjustments.

The processing part of the product consists of the PIC18LF6720 and Xilinx PLD XC95144XL. A functional diagram allows the device to show three main counters. One is used to measure the relative phase of the internal oscillator and GPS PPS, and to perform necessary adjustments to the oscillator frequency to lock and stay locked to GPS. The second counter is used to measure the input frequency, while the third counter supports phase measurements.

The module includes an internal 12-channel GPS-locked crystal oscillator that synchronizes 10MHz and 1PPS for referencing in any area where GPS reception is weak, an internal NiMH battery, and a fast charging system. A 12V external power may also be attached for charging or prolonged use in any vehicle and it measures 20.32-by-15.24-by-10.16cm.
