Clare Inc., an IXYS company, has announced the availability of the CPC1978J power OptoMOS solid-state relay (SSR) that is an optically coupled device capable of blocking voltages up to 800V. With a load current handling capability up to 10A and on-resistance of 2.3 ohms, the device is suitable for use in motor control, robotics, medical equipment, consumer appliances, and I/O subsystem applications.

The CPC1978J power relay is offered in the i4-PAC package that is part of IXYS' family of ISOPLUS packages. The packages feature a process where the silicon is soft soldered unto the Direct Copper Bond (DCB) substrate instead of the usual copper frame. The DCB ceramic provides 2500Vrms isolation capability from the leads to the backside of the package, and enables a low thermal resistance compared to conventional external-mounted isolation material.

Sample quantities of the CPC1978J are available for $4.50 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
