Raychem Circuit Protection, a unit of Tyco Electronics, has released its ROV series of Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs) for overvoltage fault protection in line voltage applications such as security systems, and power supplies.

Protecting equipment from potential power surge damage, the varistor clamps high-energy and short-duration impulses, and can be combined with the company's PolySwitch LVR overcurrent protection devices to provide a resettable circuit protection solution for surge strips, and control board transformers.

The ROV devices are rated from 18V to 1,800V, and are available in 5mm to 20mm diameters and radial-leaded configurations. With a pricing range of 3 cents to 30 cents (100-unit quantities), the product can be supplied in tape-and-reel packaging for compatibility with high-volume assembly.
