ROHM infrared module includes driver LSI

ROHM Co. Ltd has developed the RPM882-H7 IrDA infrared communications module that incorporates a built-in LED driver, and remote control transmission function.

Unlike the two-chip system, the LED for emission is allocated in the center of the module to ensure high directivity free of optical axis deviation. The product also features a GaAlAs LED that ensures high luminous intensity, and provides a remote control distance of 9m that is 1.8 times as long as the remote control distance of conventional models.

Suitable for use in cellphones and PDAs, the RPM882-H7 incorporates all necessary driver functions. It is offered in a 2.9-by-8-by-2.2mm package, and incorporates a digital interface that supports down to a minimum of 1.5 V. The module is priced at $3.80 each.
