LG deploys Agere traffic management chips

LG Electronics Inc. has selected Agere Systems Inc.'s asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) traffic management switching chips to be used in its wireless basestation and multiservice router equipment.

For LG's basestations, Agere is providing its ATM devices such as the ATM Port Controller (APC) and ASX/ACE. In addition, LG's multiservice router houses Agere's APC, Pi-X and Pi-C, and PayloadPlus chips for ATM-based multi-protocol service. LG plans to use in its multiservice routers Agere's PI-40X and PI-40C chip solutions, as well as the company's APP550 single-chip, traffic management network processor solution.
