LSI Logic slices use 0.11?m process technology

LSI Logic Corp. has unveiled two families of pre-built slices - the RapidChip Xtreme and the RapidChip Integrator. The Xtreme family is designed to suit high-bandwidth applications such as communications, storage and computing, while the Integrator family also targets consumer electronics, industrial, security, instrumentation, and imaging markets.

Both families use the 0.11?m process technology and build upon the RapidChip value proposition to provide designers with fast, predictable and affordable custom logic solutions.

The Xtreme family currently supports slices with 8-, 16- or 32 GigaBlaze channels of up to 4.25Gbps SerDes that are compliant with fiber channel, serial ATA and PCI Express standards. Complementing GigaBlaze, the Xtreme family also includes support for the company's HyperPHY transceivers at 155Mbps to 3200Mbps per channel, enabling multiple OIF SPI4.2 and SFI4.1 link interfaces.

The Integrator family is engineered for mainstream logic applications with ASIC gate counts ranging from 2.9M to 9.8M combined with on-chip RAM up to 5.3Mb. Integrator customers are able to migrate between slices using the same low-cost wirebond package while maintaining the same board layout. With support for 200MHz and 400Mbit DDR memory interfaces, system designers are assured of ASIC design flexibility with predictable layout turn-around times.

Pricing for the entry level slice starts at $25 for 100, 000 units.
