IP provider Virage Logic struck two licensing deals, saying it would transfer logic, memory and I/O technology to Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and Semiconductor Mfg Int. Corp. in China.

Silterra said it would use the logic and I/O libraries starting this quarter on its 0.18?m CL180G process and the embedded memory on its 0.25?m CL250G process. SMIC will introduce the IP into its 0.18?m process in the fourth quarter.

"As the market moves to an outsourcing model, we are extending our compatibility to all the major foundries around the world. Silterra's strength and success in major global markets, especially in Asia, are key as we continue to build our presence in that region," said Adam Kablanian, president and CEO, Virage Logic.

Virage is also hoping to leverage SMIC's first-mover status in China to increase its presence in a market expected to double by 2006 to $31 billion.
