NEC Electronics America Inc. has announced the availability of the K0REboard product development solution for its 8-bit K0 and K0S microcontroller (MCU) line. The K0REboards are hardware-based solutions that allow designers to evaluate the capabilities of the company's K0 and K0S MCUs.

The K0RE9418-KB supports the ?PD78F9418 K0S MCU with flash memory and an LCD controller, while the K0RE81-DK Design Kit is designed for the ?PD789881 MCU, which includes both the K0RE81 and EV81 development boards and a K232 serial adapter board.

Accompanying the release of the K0REboards is the K0REwriter II USB low-cost flash programmer. With its GUI for Windows 2000 and USB connectivity, the K0REwriter II flash programmer can be used to program K0 and K0S flash MCU.

Bart Ladd, GM of Microcontroller Strategic Business Unit, said, "Coupling the K0REboard design platform with the K0REwriter II USB low-cost flash programmer, the K232 serial adapter and the ROM monitor gives the designer the right tools to really 'get under the hood' and accelerate the time-to-functioning prototype."

The K0RE4918-KB is priced at $39, the K0RE81-DK design kit at $99, and the K0REwriter II USB at $149.
