Atrenta Inc., a provider of RTL "predictive analysis" solutions, has secured $5.3 million in series B venture capital funding, bringing the total amount raised to over $17 million. The funding will be used to expand Atrenta's R&D efforts and to further develop its customer base.

Atrenta provides SpyGlass, a tool that detects chip design problems in such areas as clock domain crossings, synchronization, timing, and testability. Members of the SpyGlass suite of tools support design for test, low power design, and electrical rule compliance.

Headquartered in San Jose, California, the company has an R&D center in India and employs over 100 people worldwide. The company claims to have over 50 customers, and has distributors and representatives in Europe and Asia.

At the end of July, Atrenta appointed Jonathan Spira as its new CFO. Prior to Atrenta, Spira served as CFO of ePeople and Autonomy.

The latest round of funding was led by Smart Technology Ventures, a new investor in the company. Also participating were series A investors including Venrock Associates, TL Ventures, and Finaventures.
