NEC to provide Samsung with Intel-based servers

NEC Corp. has been selected by Samsung Electronics to provide NEC-developed Intel 64-bit processor-based (Itanium2) servers.

Under the terms of the agreement, NEC will supply Samsung with its 8-, 16-, and 32-way Itanium2 based servers in an OEM basis. Samsung will in turn market these Itanium2 servers in Korea and other Asian countries as a product in its server product family. NEC will grant Samsung with an exclusive distribution right of these Itanium2-based servers in Korea.

The two companies further intend to put joint technical efforts for future product lines that will meet regional market needs for Korea and other Asian countries.
