Credence Systems Corp. has introduced the IMS Vanguard 250 engineering validation test system for digital and logic ICs. The system offers validation, characterization and yield enhancement capabilities for mainstream consumer ICs, including devices for DVD players, game consoles, and cellular handsets.

Claiming to be one of the lowest costs per pin in the industry, the IMS Vanguard 250 allows design engineers to acquire comprehensive data on silicon functionality and performance that are needed to debug or optimize a design. Unlike traditional ATE systems, the product provides engineers with interactive software tools to address performance problems in real-time. The system's software allows designers to change pattern, voltage, and timing parameters utilizing a graphical interface.

Providing clock speeds running at 250MHz and data rates of 250Mbps, the system may be configured with up to 512 I/O pins and as many as sixteen clocks. The product is also fully upgradeable to 550MHz performance, with high-speed data rate options to 1.1Gbps.

The system is priced at $300,000.
