Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd has developed 1.8-inch, high-resolution, dual TFT-LCDs driven by a single driver IC and backlight. According to the company, by sharing the driver IC and backlight, the 1.8-inch dual TFT-LCDs, with a main panel inside a flip phone and external panel, can be manufactured 1mm thinner than other 1.8-inch panels.

Samsung has applied amorphous technology, normally used with larger TFT-LCDs for notebook PCs and desktop monitors, to its latest 2.2-inch TFT-LCDs for mobile phones. As a result, the 2.2-inch panels achieve 320-by-240 (qVGA) resolutions. In relation to this, the company has also developed a proprietary TMR (Transmissive with Micro-Reflective) technology that allows the display to maintain its original image quality indoors while greatly enhancing image quality outdoors.
