Two of the bigger players in embedded Session Initiation Protocol software announced plans to offer joint SIP application solutions for wireline and wireless systems.

Ubiquity Software Corp. and Convedia Corp. made the announcement at the SIP Interoperability Test Event in Ottawa, Ontario.

The two companies showed interoperability between Ubiquity's SIP application server product and Convedia's CMS-6000 and CMS-8000 media servers. As a follow-up to the demonstrated interoperability, Ubiquity will bundle its Speak Conference Director with Convedia's media server.

The two companies also said they will explore additional opportunities for joint marketing, product bundling, and product development.

Grant Henderson, Convedia's VP of marketing, said one immediate benefit of the collaboration for wireline and wireless service providers is that IP-based applications such as conferencing and messaging can be developed with the joint products. Product developers would not require a detailed understanding of application programming interfaces by the service providers.
