AU Optronics heavily invests in new fab

TFT-LCD manufacturer AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) has announced investments totaling NT$80 billion ($2.33 billion at NT$34.214:$1) at its L10 fab located in Taichung Science Park. According to the company, the reason behind this investment is that TFT-LCD industry has stabilized over time and has long term growth potentials.

The fab will utilize 6G technology, with 1,500mm-by-1,850mm dimensional mother glass and monthly first phase capacity estimated at 60K. Apart from AUO's next-generation fab, its Taichung site will also feature the company's color filter plant (C10) and module plant (M10).

H.B. Chen, president of AU Optronics reiterated, "AUO is one of the two TFT-LCD manufacturers in the world that produced a full range of application and sizes. [Sixth-generation] 6G technology will bring to life our vision in the LCD TV market. Our flexible capabilities with a wide-range of fabs of different generations will enable us to provide all-round service to our clients. Our company will be the most flexible and competitive in the industry."
