Royal Philips Electronics has licensed Sony Corp.'s Memory Stick technology for use in its Nexperia portfolio of programmable silicon-on-chips (SoCs) and system solutions for multimedia applications.

The combination of Memory Stick technology with the image processing capabilities of Nexperia system solutions is expected to provide consumers with additional techniques for handling content stored on a Memory Stick, such as improved image capabilities including real-time image rotation, zooming and panning. By integrating Memory Stick controller logic onto its next-generation Nexperia devices, Philips creates a direct link between Nexperia devices and Memory Stick devices, thus improving overall system performance.

Nexperia system solutions with the integrated Memory Stick technology are scheduled to be available by Q2 of 2004.
