Tool vendor Zuken Ltd has released a Cadstar desktop PCB design package that includes high-end routing technologies. The company has also signed up four additional resellers in the U.S. and Europe.

Zuken now offers its PR Editor XR 2000 and PR Editor XR 5000 layout environments with the Cadstar suite. The two tools are said to give customers an upgrade path as their design requirements grow.

Cadstar was previously offered with a layer-limited layout technology, so users were required to buy a high-end package from Zuken if they wished to route boards with more layers than Cadstar supported. The addition of the XR 2000 and XR 5000 tools supports higher-end PCD design projects.

The two router tools are available with each Cadstar bundle, supporting PCBs with an unlimited number of layers. In addition, the routers include a technology called Activ-45, which is said to enable complete, automatic, interactive routing with a single mouse click. Push-aside and spring-back functions in the routers allow users to place or move components.

Four levels of Cadstar suites are available, based on the number of electrical-routing layers of the PCB design. All include library, schematic, layout, and interactive-routing functionalities.

The Cadstar Bronze edition, which is limited to designs with 2,000 pins, starts at $3,500. Cadstar Silver, with a 3,500-pin limit, starts at $5,500. Cadstar Platinum, for designs with an unlimited pin count, starts at $11,000. Cadstar Diamond, the premier suite for high-speed designs, starts at $35,000.

Zuken has also announced four additional value-added resellers: Circuit Concepts, to serve customers in northern California; K&K Marketing, in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah; PCB Interconnect in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois; and CADvision SAS in France.
