Molex miniSD card connectors save memory space

Molex Inc. claims that its series of miniSD card connectors and adapters is the smallest memory card solution for mobile phones and other portable devices available in the market today. The miniSD connectors accept thumbnail size miniSD Flash memory cards that are being used to store and transfer digital images such as photos, videos, games, and e-mail in the latest generation of mobile phones. This format is claimed to save about 60 percent of overall space in the unit compared to standard SD versions.

Available in reverse-mount versions with various profile heights, card connectors with normal mount versions will also be released. The products feature a spring lock mechanism for secure card retention and a push-push eject mechanism for easy card extraction. A robust metal shell design provides shielding and protection.

The 11-circuit miniSD format includes two extra pins to accommodate anticipated future functionality and speed upgrades. It includes a dual beam contact on the power and ground pins for strong normal force and good electrical continuity.

Pricing for the miniSD card connectors depends on quantity and features. Lead time is typically eight to nine weeks.
