Epcos AG and Continental Temic have agreed to develop components for power electronics in hybrid vehicles. Epcos' power capacitors feature a light and space-saving design that enables Continental Temic to manufacture compact and efficient converters for power trains. The Electronic Powertrain Controller (EPC) Project uses capacitors based on Epcos' stacked winding technology for ultracompact designs in automotive electronics.

Rated at 2,000?F, the power capacitors have a dielectric strength of 450Vdc and measures 292-by-146-by-56mm. At an operating frequency of 8kHz, a current up to 150A RMS can be applied to the capacitor.

Other features include an oil-free design, self-healing capability, and wide operating temperature range from -40C to 105C.
