STMicroelectronics and Sanyo Ind. Ltd, a subsidiary of Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd, have agreed on the joint development of a digital TV receiver technology for deployment in Sanyo's newest range of integrated digital TV receiver (iDTV) products.

Sanyo's iDTV products, based on ST's SoC IC development platform for both CRT and LCD TV receivers, are capable of decoding analog and digital terrestrial broadcasts. Designed to bridge the gap between conventional analog TV receiver and forthcoming digital TV receiver technology, Sanyo is using STMicro's single-chip digital TV receiver decoder for 1H/2H CRT TV receiver applications. The device is capable of decoding and displaying analog and digital broadcasts and is completely software compatible with current 2H solutions.

The two companies are closely cooperating to enable Sanyo introduce its new iDTV models to the market and start mass production by early 2004.
