Digital camera market to further expand over the years

In the next three years, I believe that broadband, LCD, and Bluetooth will be the three technologies with promising growth potentials because of their numerous applications. Broadband will probably bring out a lot of new products in the mobile storage and mass storage fields. I predict that broadband will produce a new type of business that specializes in providing mass storage service to customers through broadband.

Further, as LCD eventually replaces CRT, the LCD market, particularly that of TFT-LCD, will grow very rapidly over the next few years. Currently, handset screens are mainly STN-LCD types, but the trend over the next few years is towards that of TFT-LCDs, as STN-LCD will take the backseat as the secondary screen.

Although color TFT/STN-LCD is seemingly the way to go, color LCDs encounter the issue of high power consumption, which I think would remain unsolved for another three years. As a result, mono or black and white LCDs still have some market right now. As for OLEDs, it's hard to tell how they will perform in the market during the next three years as it is highly dependent on the commercial competitiveness of its products.

The market for digital cameras to rapidly grow over the next few years. However, I believe that we can learn a thing or two from the business model of the PC industry and be able to create more peripherals for the digital camera. The first digital camera peripheral we are planning to develop is a mobile storage device (or digital camera companion) which has a universal card reader interface that can read all kinds of digital camera storage cards in market, including CF cards, memory sticks and SD cards, and can transfer the content of the card to a big capacity mobile hard disk. This device has low-power consumption and high mobility, and is user-friendly.

The second peripheral we are planning to develop for the digital camera line is a photo printer, which is different from the ones from Cannon or Epson in that it is smaller, more stylish, and very easy to use. The printer will be able to print five and six-inch photos. The third peripheral is a mini digital scanner, and finally, a transitional product that combines the features of both digital cameras and digital camcorders.
