Ericsson inks deal for China GSM network expansion

Ericsson has signed a $29 million contract with Heilongjiang Mobile Communications Co. for its GSM/GPRS network expansion.

According to the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will supply GSM and GPRS network equipment and services to Heilongjiang Mobile. Nanjing Ericsson Panda Communication Company Ltd., Ericsson's largest joint venture in China, will provide the contracted hardware and software, while Ericsson (China) Technology Service Co. Ltd. will provide professional services.

With this expansion, Heilongjiang Mobile's GPRS network capacity is expected to increase from 60,000 to 200,000 subscribers.
