China Mobile signs Motorola for GSM expansions

China Mobile Communication Corp. (CMCC) has signed more than 40 contracts with Motorola Global Telecom Solutions Sector (GTSS) in 1H of 2003 to expand GSM voice services and continue the development of wireless data offerings for the China market.

Motorola has provided CMCC with network optimization services and GPRS Coding Schemes 3 and 4 (CS-3/4) solutions which are expected to provide significantly faster data speeds. Currently, CMCC is rolling out CS-3/4 nationwide. Motorola and CMCC have also deployed the first Java technology-based platform in China, enabling the operator to be the first in that market to provide its customers with high-end data applications.

The agreements with CMCC also include a range of additional services, including GSM/GPRS capacity expansion, GSM/GPRS network deployment in new areas and the Network Support Program (NSP), including improved quality and service provision for network management.
