Envivio Inc. has released what it claims is the world's first real-time H.264 encoder system based on the Intel Xeon processor. The 4Caster real-time H.264 encoder uses the Hyper-Threading technology of the Xeon processor to provide real-time encoding for full-resolution, full frame rate video.

All H.264 4Caster real-time encoder systems take advantage of the Xeon processor IntelNetBurst microarchitecture, Hyper-Threading technology, and integrated three-level cache architecture to deliver high levels of network bandwidth efficiency over conventional MPEG-2 systems. The Xeon processor technology also allows the encoder system to scale in terms of users and emerging technologies.

The 4Caster family is currently used by satellite transmission and IP video companies, and has been designed to meet the needs of all fixed and mobile professional video contribution and distribution applications. Since it uses MPEG-4 and H.264 formats, the 4Caster system requires only one encoding scheme for all playback devices.
