NTT DoCoMo Inc. has started marketing what it claims to be the industry's first data-card type terminal that is capable of high-speed packet transmission with a maximum data rate of 384Kbps.

The F2402 device makes possible video calling from a PC to a FOMA videophone, or to an ISDN-connected fixed videophone terminal. To enable this function, the PC user must pre-install videophone software, use a web camera-enabled PC, and wear an earphone/microphone headset.

With a data transmission speeds of 384Kbps (packet communication) and 64Kbps (data communication), the product consumes 5Vdc that is supplied from the PC card slot, and has 700mA during operation, 500mA average, and 30mA in standby.

The F2402 also supports multi-accessing, alowing users to simultaneously transmit both voice and data.
