Texas Instruments Inc. has announced plans to open a new wireless applications center in Taipei later this year. This was revealed during a keynote address by TI CEO Tom Engibous, at the e21 CEO Summit at Computex Taipei 2003.

This is in connection with TI's pledged commitment to work with Asian companies throughout the wireless industry to proliferate the development and adoption of converged voice and multimedia wireless devices and services.

"The new applications center will be a place where handset makers can come and see all of TI's wireless technologies in action, including the OMAP platform as well as solutions for cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth," Engibous said. "OMAP processors are in 15 advanced handsets on store shelves today, and we expect to see the platform in 40 handset models on the market by year's end."

Manufacturers can also use the applications center to gain firsthand experience with new wireless software programs on the market and under development. The center also will assist members of the TI OMAP Developer Network by supporting application development and providing exposure to key manufacturers in Taiwan.
