Designers of mobile communication devices incorporating Wolfson Microelectronics' audio components now have access to a selection of software drivers to support five new processor families. The drivers have been developed following the formation of a software development team based at the company's headquarters.

The software development team has already created drivers for Microsoft WinCE 3.0, 4.1, 4.2, and Linux to support hardware platforms such as, Xscale, Geode, Alchemy, Crusoe, and a variety of x86 processors.

The company's family of low power audio components for mobile communication applications is the first in its range of products to benefit from software driver support. The WM9705/10 and the WM9711/12 audio codec devices use the AC'97 audio interface to eliminate hidden extra power consumption.
