RF Micro Devices Inc. has announced the availability of its WLAN transceiver solution that is designed to suit 802.11g applications. The company claims that the transceiver solution enables long battery life, superior range, small size, and low BOM cost.

The 802.11g solution is comprised of the RF2959 single-chip transceiver and the RF5190 power amplifier (PA). The RF2959 is available in a 6-by-6mm 40-pin package, requires minimal external components, and features a standard interface compatible with multiple baseband/MACs (media access controllers) to provide flexibility to customers.

The company offers reference design kits containing software, design documents and assembly files to fully characterize the RF2959 and RF5190.

The 802.11g technology extends the data rate of the 802.11b standard from 11Mbps to 54Mbps while maintaining backward compatibility with all 802.11b devices.
