A micropower, low-dropout (LDO) regulator for applications in portable systems such as PDAs, pocket PCs, cellphones and portable computers was announced by Micrel Semiconductor. Designed to operate in either a single or a higher-efficiency dual supply mode, the MIC5238 consumes 23?A of bias current, and can supply up to 150mA of output current. The product supports an input voltage range of 1.5V to 6V, and is available with outputs as low as 0.9V.

The latest addition to the company's line of IttyBitty SOT-23-5 LDO regulators featuring ?Cap capability, it features a bias supply range of 2.3V to 6V, standby current of 23?A at 100?A, output accuracy of 2 percent, dropout voltage of 310mV at 150mA, and current limit and thermal shutdown. Junction temperature range is from -40C to 125C.

The product is priced at $1.13 for 1,000-unit quantities.
