Kemet caps have 100 percent increased capacitance

Kemet Corp. has introduced its newest generation of KO (Kemet Organic) capacitors and KM (KEMET Multi-Polymer-Anode) capacitors which are claimed to feature increased capacitance capability by over 100 percent and increased frequency response by over 300 percent.

The architecture of KMs provides capacitance that is orders of magnitude larger than the largest multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) with high frequency response. The KMs are targeted at power management for high speed microprocessors on motherboards and server boards.

Large case size KOs are less expensive than KMs, with similar capacitance to KMs but lower frequency response. Large case size KOs are targeted at high-functionality electronic products, such as notebooks, servers, networks, and mobile phones, while small case size KOs are targeted at smaller electronic products, such as PDAs, DVDs, mobile phones, and notebooks.

The KOs can be drop in replacements for certain high-capacitance MLCCs, and do not have problems common with high-capacitance MLCCs, such as thermal or mechanical cracking, loss of capacitance over time due to aging, or loss of capacitance with changes in voltage or temperature.
