Renesas Technology Corp. has developed what it claims is the world's smallest 16Mb SRAM, the SuperSRAM. By adopting a newly developed memory cell technology, the company was able to reduce the product's size to 32mm?.

Suitable for portable battery-operated applications, the device can also be used in printers, POS terminals, and other business and industrial equipment. Unlike pseudo SRAMs, the product requires no refreshing process.

Featuring a power supply of 1.65V to 2.3V or 2.7V to 3.6V, the SRAM has an access time of 70ns or 85ns, and standby current of 3?A or 4?A. Offered in TSOP or BGA packages, samples are available for $15.
