FCI high-speed connector operates to 6.25Gbps

FCI Communications has announced the availability of its AirMax VS connector system that is suitable for use in the design of high speed computing and network systems, from 2.5Gbps to 6.25Gbps with built-in scalability to >12Gbps. Using air as a highly-efficient dielectric, the design of the AirMax VS, for Virtual Shields, eliminates the need for interleaving shields to reduce both weight and cost over alternative connector systems.

The connector is a scalable, inverse two-piece backplane connector system with a common IMLA (Insert Molded Leadframe Assembly) for both differential pair signal and single-ended signal designs. Options for both connections are provided in the same IMLA. The system allows for mix-and-match IMLAs or signals within an IMLA. This reduces cost by providing the flexibility to stock and use the same connector for a variety of design options.

Available in a 150-position configuration for 1-inch slot centers, the product will be offered in two configurations - 1x2 and 2x2. Each of the modules provides 80A current capacity.
