NEC Electronics Corp. and ARM Ltd have entered into a long-term strategic partnership. The collaboration includes the co-development and marketing of a next-generation multiprocessor core based on Symmetric Multi-Processor (SMP) technology.

Under this agreement, NEC has licensed the ARM11 family as well as ARM966E-S core and the VFP9 vector floating-point co-processor. The strategic collaboration is aimed at extending the two companies' businesses within application-rich domains by leveraging the broad range of software developed for the ARM core family and the multiprocessing technology from NEC.
