Nvidia releases GPUs for next-gen gaming systems

Nvidia Corp. has introduced its GeForce FX 5950 Ultra and the GeForce FX 5700 series of graphics processing units (GPUs) that, together with the company's ForceWare release 50 graphics driver, claims to deliver unmatched image quality and ultra-high performance, cinematic graphics for the hottest new PC games.

The GeForce FX 5950 Ultra is the fastest GPU in the company's history. Manufactured using 0.13?m process technology at TSMC, the GPU combines fast clock rates with a 256-bit memory bus. It is designed to deliver cinematic-quality graphics and studio-quality color. The GeForce FX 5700 Ultra GPU offers gamers a DirectX 9.0 performance at a mainstream price.

Featuring the CineFX 2.0 engine, the devices also comes with the UltraShadow technology, which is designed to improve the shader power that enables more complex effects, and to accelerate the rendering of lighting and shadows.

The ForceWare unified software environment (USE) provides one driver for all products, continual performance and feature updates over the life of the product. It also supports the OpenGL and Microsoft DirectX 9.0 feature sets.
