Linear Tech buck regulator delivers up to 600mA

The LTC3408 1.5MHz, synchronous buck regulator from Linear Technology comes with an integrated bypass MOSFET that can deliver up to 600mA of continuous output current from a 8-lead DFN package. The on-chip bypass MOSFET has an RDSon of 0.08 ohms to minimize power loss in the bypass mode.

Using a constant frequency, current mode architecture, the product operates from an input voltage range of 2.5V to 5V, making it suitable for use in single cell Li-ion cellular applications. The device's output can be dynamically programmed from 0.3V to 3.5V. At output voltages above 3.6V, an internal bypass P-Channel MOSFET transistor connects Vout directly to Vbattery with a dropout of <50mV at 600mA. Its 1.5MHz switching frequency enables it to use low cost capacitors and inductors that are <1mm in height.

With a 96 percent efficiency, the LTC3408 features a quiescent current of 20?A and shutdown current of <1?A. Offered in an 8-lead DFN package that measures 3-by-3mm, the product is priced at $2.15 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
